Banking Business (Jersey) Law 1991, as amended (BB(J)L)

The Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) issues this public statement pursuant to Article 48(2) of the BB(J)L.

This statement is made in order to warn members of the public against dealing with unauthorised financial service providers and to advise the public of the Scam Entity, which it appears is using the Website and Email address in purporting to represent BNP Paribas S.A., Jersey Branch, and/or other entities of the BNP Paribas Group. The Scam Entity has not received authorisation to conduct deposit-taking business within the meaning of the BB(J)L.

From documentation held by the JFSC it appears that the Scam Entity is currently, falsely, purporting to trade from an address of BNP Paribas Bank, 158 Anley Street St Helier, Jersey JE4 8RD Channel Islands and is carrying on, or holding out that it is carrying on, deposit-taking business in Jersey when it is not authorised to do so pursuant to the provisions of the BB(J)L.

The JFSC notes similar public statements were issued in relation to the Scam Entity on 29 July 2013 and 30 May 2018, respectively, and this public statement serves as a further warning to the public.

The JFSC wishes the following to be known:

  1. The Scam Entity, Website and Email Address are not connected in any way to BNP Paribas S.A., Jersey Branch and/or other entities of the BNP Paribas Group.
  2. The Scam Entity has never been registered, nor applied for registration, under the BB(J)L. Therefore any deposit-taking business, as defined in Article 3 of the BB(J)L and carried out by the Scam Entity, is in breach of Article 8 of the BB(J)L.
  3. From documentation held by the JFSC, it appears the Scam Entity, Website and the Email Address display warning signs of being set up for a fraudulent purpose.

Any person who has had dealings with the Scam Entity or the Scam Email Address is requested to contact the JFSC.
